A terrible plague is raveging my city and nothing seems to stop it. Countless sacrifices and gifts have been offered to the gods, but this curse still lives on. I need answers and a solution quickly. Whatever's doing this to my people must be stopped!

I became the king of Thebes not because I was the son of the former King ,but because I defeated the Sphinx by solving her riddle. She asked me "What goes on four feet in the morning, two feet at noon, and three feet in the evening?"  which I replied "man" ,thus defeating the Sphinx and winning the throne of Thebes. Here begins the reign of the greatest King this land will ever see.

As a form of punishment I have banished and blinded myself for my terrible deed. I have cursed my children by being their father and my city has paid for my actions. Before I go I trust Creon with taking care of my children and leave Thebes forever to lift it's plague.

Upon hearing the news that she had married and had children with her son who was also the murderer of her husband  my mother ran to the palace and hanged herself in the bedroom. I caused this and it's all my fault. I can't take this news. It is too much to handle. Why would fate lead me to this. Are the gods punishing me? Are they laughing in their hall on Olympus as I weep for my mother who had no say in these events? Why?

I need answers and the only way to get them is by asking a witness who was at the crossroad when he was killed. The witness who is a shepherd confirms that I was adopted and the son of the former King of Thebes. Such awful news has fallen upon my family. It now confirms that the prophecy was true. I have brought shame to my home and disgraced my family.

My wife Jocasta describes to me an oracle which never came true. She says it never came true because the former king was killed at a crossroad which sounds familiar to the time I killed a few men at a crossroad before I made it to Thebes. I'm confused on whether these two events are connected or whether it is a mere coincidence.

My brother Creon returned to me with news that the plague's cause is due to the former king's murderer not being convicted for his crimes against the state. Then the blind prophet Tiresias has claimed that I of all people murdered the old king. I feel betrayed by Creon. He must have bribed the prophet to speak of such accusations. I can't forgive such treason and so I have decided to punish Creon by executing him.
